Every 4th grader participates in a weekly 45 minute chorus rehearsal. In 4th grade, students begin to learn the foundations of choral singing such as reading an octavo, using proper posture and breath management, singing in both unison and with simple harmonies such as rounds and partner songs, and listening to other singers around them in order to blend their voice with a group. 4th graders learn a variety of children's choral literature to perform at the spring concert at the end of the year.
At the beginning of each chorus class, students listen to other choirs and vocalists and discuss their listening experiences. We then do several physical and vocal warm ups before working on learning our repertoire for the rest of the rehearsal.
